A few photos from our singing session on Portobello beach – another glorious evening. Thanks again to Jon Davey for the lovely photos
There was standing room only at our summer concert at St. Mark’s Church! Here are some edited highlights Portobello Community Choir 18th May 2016
A group of about 18 singers braved torrential rain and gail force winds to sing on the steps of the Town Hall to an appreciative audience for the switching on of the lights and late night shopping in Portobello. We were then invited to the Lothian Dance Academy where we dried out over a very welcome glass of gluwien and a piece of stollen thanks to Morag Phillips. We watched some stunning dancing, and then sang some more – we have already been invited back for next year!
On 30th May Portobello Community Choir started the Imagine Portobello event off in style with an Aboriginal welcome song that we encouraged everyone to join in with. We also sang a rousing gospel song ‘Come along my friend’ as part of the opening ceremony and performed as part of the grand finale in the Old Parish Church at the end of the day. Many thanks to Jon Davey for these lovely photos.
We will start back again on Wednesday 7th January 7.15 – 9.30pm and will have a focus on learning songs for the Wassail at Donkeyfield Community Orchard on Saturday 24th January 2-4pm
Thurs 4th December 5.30 – 6.45pm (not singing the whole time…) we are singing at the switching on of the Christmas lights in Portobello, initially near and around the tree just along from the Town Hall, and then at a couple of other places on the High Street for late night shopping.
Sat 6th December 11 – 11.30am Portobello Market, Brighton Park. We will provide some seasonal musical entertainment for market shoppers.
Sat 24th January 2 – 4pm Wassailing at PEDAL’s Donkeyfield Community Orchard http://www.pedal-porty.org.uk/food/orchard/
Weekly choir sessions for the autumn term will start on
Wednesday 10th September 7.15 – 9.30pm
(No session on October 15th – school mid-term break)
Portobello Baptist Church Hall, 189 Portobello High Street
Come and sing songs in harmony from around the world. All welcome regardless of experience and perceived ability. Open to those who have been to tasters and those who have not. Songs will be taught by ear in a relaxed environment.
£6/£4 conc. We’ll run the sessions on a drop in basis up to half term and then ask people to pay by term/half-term. It’d be great if you can come regularly though so we can start to build up a repertoire. Looking forward to singing with you all again soon!
